The Placenta for Postpartum Healing

There are many ways to consume the placenta after birth in order to receive all the potential benefits it has to offer the new mother. Placenta encapsulation provides the most palatable and uninvasive way to consume the placenta since it provides pure placenta in easy to take capsule form.

For thousands of years, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has revered the placenta as a powerful and invaluable part of the postpartum healing process. After giving birth many new mothers experience blood loss, fatigue, and a drop in their high pregnancy hormones; all of which are thought of as key factors in the development of the “baby blues” and postpartum depression (PPD). Full of Qi, life energy, the placenta aids in postpartum wellness by replenishing your system with natural iron & protein and helps reintroduce these essential hormones back into your system.

The "baby blues" affect the majority of women. It is so common that it is not even considered a disorder.

Symptoms:
    - Mood Instability
    - Weepiness
    - Sadness
    - Lack of concentration
    - Feelings of dependency

Causes:
    - Rapid hormonal changes
    - Fatigue and sleep deprivation
    - Physical and emotional stress of birthing

Today, approximately 80% of women experience some level of postpartum depression/mood disorder. Using the placenta for its medicinal properties during the postpartum period is a natural & healthier way you can help avoid these symptoms and the costly treatments that usually accompany them, such as medications and counseling. Placenta Encapsulation is the easiest and most palatable way to use your placenta.

Is your placenta in your birth plan?

Benefits of Placenta Capsules

The placenta has amazing abilities during the postpartum period; it can heal, sustain, and strengthen.
Traditionally Placenta Capsules are used to help:
     - balance your hormones
     - enhance milk supply
     - increase your energy.

Placenta Capsules may also help:
     - You to recover more quickly from birth
     - To bring the body back into balance
     - Prevent the "baby blues"
     - Shorten postpartum bleeding
     - Assist the uterus to return to size
     - Increase postpartum iron levels

Women who take placenta capsules report fewer emotional issues and enjoy a faster, more pleasant postpartum recovery. Women, and their families, notice a marked improvement in overall feelings of happiness and well-being when taking placenta capsules. My PlacentaMom clients often refer to their placenta capsules as “happy pills!”

The role of the placenta does not stop at birth, so do not let your placenta go to waste...Encapsulate!

The Placenta's Healing Chemicals

The known ingredients that give the placenta its healing properties are:
    - Gonadotrophin - the precursor to estrogen, progesterone and testosterone
    - Prolactin - promotes lactation
    - Oxytocin - for pain and bonding; produced during breastfeeding to facilitate bonding of mother and infant. In
pharmaceutical form this is a very addictive drug because it promotes a feeling of connectedness with others and
is often referred to as the “love” hormone
    - Interferon - stimulates the immune system to protect against infection
    - Thyroid Stimulating Hormone -  boosts energy and helps recover from stressful events
    - Cortisone - combats stress and unlocks stores of energy
    - Prostaglandins - anti-inflammatory
    - Hemoglobin - replenishes iron deficiency and anemia
    - Gammaglobulin -  immune booster that helps protect against postpartum infections
    - Urokinase Inhibiting Factor & Factor XIII - stops bleeding and enhances wound healing

The placenta is full of feel-good hormones and healing chemicals, so it makes sense to safely welcome them back into your system during your postpartum period via placenta encapsulation in order to have a happy babymoon.

The Process

During the encapsulation of your placenta I use methods that adhere to Traditional Chinese Medicine. Before being dried, the placenta is prepared using herbs that lend their healing properties to the placenta and benefit a postpartum mother. The placenta is then ground and encapsulated, and when properly stored, the capsules can be used long-term.

During the first visit, I spend about two hours preparing the placenta for the drying phase, then leave the placenta to finish drying overnight.  The next day, I will returns to complete the encapsulation step, which takes about one hour. You can begin taking the capsules right away for maximum postpartum benefits.

Why Hire a Professional Placenta Encapsulation Specialist?

Ideally, the placenta is encapsulated within 48 hours after the birth.  While you bond with your new baby, I will come to you and take care of your placenta in your own home.  I am basically “on call” for you and will make every effort to come to your home within the 48-hour time frame to encapsulate your placenta.

Even if mama and baby are recovering in the hospital, I can encapsulate your placenta at home with your partner or other relatives present and get the capsules to you right away.

I follow strict OSHA & EPA guidelines during the preparation of your placenta.  I bring all of the necessary equipment and encapsulation materials to your home to complete the process. All materials used thoroughly sterilized between each use, when not disposable, and everything meets food grade standards. Aside from the medicinal aspects, I treat the placenta as sacred, and will focus on honoring the work it has done to nourish your baby, while preparing it to continue its work nourishing you.

Worried about how to get your placenta home from the hospital or what is proper handling? No worries. Most frequently asked questions regarding the placenta encapsulation process have been addressed here, but if you have further inquiries please feel free to ask.

Yes, Placenta Encapsulation is for me!

The full placenta encapsulation process is $200.  I have recently reduced my fee to help make make placenta encapsulation more affordable to more postpartum moms. For twin placentas please add $25 to the fee. If you are not located in the Greater Sacramento Area please contact me for special pricing and service arrangements that can be made for out of area moms who would still like their placentas encapsulated by me.

My placenta encapsulation service includes approximately 100 - 200 placenta capsules that will help nourish you during your first few postpartum weeks. Each placenta is unique it both its size and composition, so I cannot guarantee how many capsules you will receive from your placenta. Along with your placenta capsules you will also receive your baby's umbilical cord (or piece of amniotic sac if cord is not available) carefully dried and placed in an organza pouch to cherish as a keepsake, and postpartum follow up support from me to ensure you have an optimum babymoon!

Payment is due at my first encapsulation visit. My fee covers all of my materials, gasoline, along with my time and services and I work very hard to keep my fee reasonable and my service accessible to everyone.

If you are interested in having your placenta encapsulated or would like to know more please contact me and you will receive a response within 24 hours. I look forward to speaking with you so that any special wishes can be discussed and you can get a chance to ask me any questions you may have.
